Wanna Make your Website Technically Strong? You need to be aware of what are the technical aspects of a website in terms of SEO. Now, What are the factors affecting the technicality of a website. We can consider below factors as important checklist while doing a Technical Site Audit.
1. Check if the mobile version of your site is available and correct. A website which is mobile friendly is definitely going to attract higher search visibility and easier to navigate.
2. Speed of a website is a crucial factor in technical SEO. Make sure that your website loads as fast as possible.(below 3s). You can check the speed of your website by given tools:
a) Google Page Speed Insights
b) GT Metrix
c) Pingdom
While testing the speed of a website, also check the Uptime and Availability of the website server.
3. Ensure that there are no broken links or images in your website. You can use Ahref tool to find all the resources which return 404 status.
4. Your site should not have too many redirects which have the status code of 301 or 302.
5. Make a good internal and external linking structure in your site.
6. Follow a SILO structure of navigation, where main pages are properly linked to sub pages and vice versa.
7. Add meta titles, description and heading tags(H1 to H6) and include your main keywords in them.
8. Ensure that there are no orphan or dead pages (pages with no links) in your site.
9. Make your site contact information readily available if its a customer oriented website.
10. Check if proper sitemap.xml and robots.txt file is added to your site.
11. Check how many pages are indexed in your website and what is the crawability of your site.
12. Ensure that no spammy links are linked with your site.
13. Use Canonical tags to Avoid Duplicate Content Issues.
14. Use rel=next and rel=prev to indicate any occurrence of pagination.
15. Use Schema Markup where ever possible.
16. Use hreflang to tell google the preferred language in a region.
17. Try to keep URL's seo friendly, short and keyword rich.
18. There should not be any excessive links in any page of your website.( Links>250 approx.)
19. Add alt text to all your images and name them using proper keywords. Also, keep image size small.
20. Finally, make sure all your Call to Action or CTA buttons are easily visible and clickable.
