On June 3rd, 2019, Google started rolling out a broad update to the ranking algorithm, named the June 2019 Google Core Update.

They announced this over the weekend, and on June 2nd, 2019, there were temporary outages of Google services (Gmail, YouTube, Google Search, Google Cloud) across the world in various locations.Google had a similar broad core update in March 2019, which appeared to be aimed at general quality.

If the June 2019 Core Update is anything like the March 2019 Core Update (which Google has indicated it may be), it is not targeting specific spam or black-hat SEO tactics, but rather trying to surface the highest quality sites and web pages.

The Google team seems to be taking a proactive stance towards naming these broad algorithm updates. The March 2019 Core Update was dubbed “Florida 2” by many SEOs, and the August 2018 Core Update was dubbed the “Medic” update by people in SEO community.

What is June update all about?

This is where Google is vague again. They did not specify what exactly this update will be doing. As the Tweet says, though, we will see little noticeable changes on the search results, however, this could lay the ground for larger updates down the road.

Favicons are important for Branding

Google's new mobile design came with a favicon feature to help companies improve their branding in Google SERPs, but it appears that many of them are trying to misuse the feature or are implementing it the wrong way. Google has started penalizing these users by removing their custom favicons and replacing them with a default icon — though it is not yet clear whether this penalty would have any effect on their SEO rankings. It is also not clear if Google is sending these users any notification, stating what causes the favicons to be removed. However, the search engine has provided its favicons guidelines to help webmasters and SEOs make their sites eligible for favicons in the search results
